Charles entered the legal profession after completing the GDL, after having read history at the University of Warwick.

Charles joins us as a transferring solicitor who had been practising in criminal defence.

Charles prosecutes and defends a wide variety of cases across the criminal courts – and is CPS grade 1.

Charles has prosecuted and defended committals for sentence in the CrownCourt, advised at plea and trial preparation hearings, and undertaken bail applications. He also acts for HM Probation Service in probation breaches and order amendments.

Committals for sentence have included dangerous driving, thefts and assaults.

At an appeal conviction, Charles managed to reverse a magistrates’ court decision for a client who initially had her licence revoked under the new driver provisions. The case concerned s.172 of the RoadTraffic Act 1988 and ‘failure to give driver information’ – Charles was commended by the judge for his conduct during the appeal.

Charles has represented clients at first appearance in the magistrates’ court to advise on plea, and has prosecuted trials during full day sessions. He has successfully prosecuted offences ranging from driving offences, to assault and strangulation.

He has also dealt with ancillary orders on sentence, including successfully repelling a Football Banning Order – and arguing forthe imposition of restraining orders and sexual harm prevention orders. He has defended matters involving the Dangerous Dogs Act.
