Adam Walker Proseutes Dangerous Driver who Caused Serious Injury

Aktar Uddin aged 34 years appeared before Bradford Crown Court on 7th November 2017 for an offence of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

This offence was introduced into law by the Legal Aid Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act of 2012.  It was the result of pressure from motoring groups who wanted to see some middle ground between Dangerous Driving (2 years maximum sentence) and Causing Death By Dangerous Driving (14 years maximum sentence).  The causing serious injury offence carries a 5-year maximum term.

Mr Uddin crashed into an oncoming vehicle whilst overtaking another vehicle on the wrong side of a keep left bollard.  The case was aggravated by the fact that a blood test revealed that he had 200ug of cocaine in his system: 4 times the legal limit of 50 ug.
